Petition

The Flint Water Crisis is a governmental failure that has caused lead poisoning in thousands of residents in Flint, Michigan, especially children. The governing bodies in and around Flint switched the source of water to the Flint River only for it to be revealed that the water was heavily polluted, even corroding the lead pipes carrying water to many houses in the area. Estimates state that as many as 6,000-12,000 children may suffer from lead poisoning. This often leads to crippling developmental problems, both mental and physical, or even death. Many of the citizens of Flint are impoverished and need help getting the medical care they need.  The purpose of this petition is to receive additional funding for Flint, Michigan, to be used exclusively for medical care. Services that we want provided to those affected in Flint include:

  • Additional walk-in health clinics providing free services (such as blood testing for lead and written referrals to specialists)

  • Maintaining medical records of all those affected and offering free yearly checkups to monitor the long term effects of lead poisoning (such as hearing loss and slowed mental development)

  • Access to chelation therapy readily available at all area hospitals (if recommended by specialist)

  • A fund created to help cover future costs as lead poisoning is a chronic condition

One of the easiest ways to make a difference is also the quickest. By just reading through and signing our petition we can be one step closer to our goal of providing affordable medical care to the citizens of Flint. Our goal currently stands at 5,000 signatures and all our supporters are appreciated.
