Snyder requests $1.2M of taxpayer’s money for legal bills

Governor Rick Snyder wants the Sate Administrative Board to approve contracts with outside legal attorneys. The $1.2 million in bills come in addition to the money already spent on defense lawyers from Attorney General Bill Schuette’s office. This use of taxpayer’s money created a lot of controversy.

According to the Detroit Free Press, people are not only outraged by the fact that money is spent on additional lawyers for Snyder’s defense instead of using it to help the people of Flint, but also about the choice of attorneys. Todd Flood, the attorney hired by Schuette has been known to have donated money to both Schuette’s and Snyder’s campaigns.

“Instead of conducting a truly independent investigation into the cause of the Flint water crisis, Bill Schuette is funneling $1.5 million in taxpayer dollars to Todd Flood, who has contributed thousands of dollars to Bill Schuette, and thousands more to Rick Snyder - the man he is supposed to be investigating,” said [Michigan Democratic Party Chairman Brandon] Dillon. “The people of Flint deserve better.”

Instead of providing the people of Flint with the help they need, Snyder wants to use tax money to prevent what a lot of Flint citizens would like to see happen: authorities being held responsible for their failures.

Governor Snyder, instead of looking out for yourself, give better access to healthcare to those affected by this man-made disaster.
